Liquid Crystal
This is an image from a recent set of studio images I created for a still life theme of "Still life + liquid = Impact". I wanted to show that the addition of liquid to every day still life objects can be made more interesting and have greater visual impact if liquid is added.
The crystal slice is from my daughter's collection as she loves gem stones. This was placed on a sheet of 5mm white acrylic and backlit to create a lightbox effect. Additional lighting was added to light the crystal slice from the top to show detail in the stone edges. Blue food colouring was added to match the colour of the crystal using a pipette so I could control the placement of the liquid and create an interesting shape. The abstract composition of this image was influenced by a recent visit to Salvador Dali and Picasso exhibitions whilst on holiday in Brugge.
