Early Morning at Pulpit Rock, Portland

September 2012 - Just after sunrise on Pulpit Rock on a nice fresh autumn morning with a high tide and plenty of waves rolling in... perfect. I always try to keep my shutter speed long enough to capture motion in the waves, but fast enough to prevent smoothing and the misty look that some people like, but not to my taste. The sea is a powerful living thing and I try to capture that in my seascapes, the same way an artist paints motion in the waves in an oil painting.
